How U Doin Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit building a 10,000 square foot Clubhouse in Northlake, Texas, a space designed for teenagers ages 13 to 17, their families, and the surrounding Denton County communities.

Eddie Fischer has spent his career trying to close that gap. Nearly 20 years into his own recovery from addiction that started at 14, he has worked in crisis intervention, sober living, and adolescent treatment across New Jersey, Arizona, and Texas.

He kept running into the same problem after a teenager finished treatment or left a crisis program: there was nowhere for them to go next. “Once a kid goes to one of these places and comes home, there’s nothing for them to do,” he says. “So all that hard work unravels.”

In 2023, Fischer founded the How U Doin Foundation to build that missing place, a Clubhouse where teenagers 13 to 17 choose to come because it’s fun, not because a counselor sent them.

The Clubhouse is deliberately built to feel nothing like a clinic. There’s no waiting room and no intake form for a teenager to fill out before they can hang out. Instead, the building is designed around four things Fischer calls the Core Elements: fun, connection, discovery, and direction, each one meant to draw a teenager in on its own terms before anything resembling “treatment” comes into it.

The Clubhouse

Construction is underway inside Northlake Business Park, developed by Texas Business Parks, directly across from Pecan Square, the master planned community developed by Hillwood.

How U Doin Foundation has signed a four year lease on the building and is scheduled to take occupancy on September 1, 2026, giving the program a permanent home in Denton County rather than a series of temporary rented rooms.

The finished space splits 10,000 square feet evenly between indoor programming and outdoor gathering space. Inside, teenagers will find a working pizza kitchen, a three-room media and podcast studio, a flex space for creative projects and mentoring, and a quiet room built as a sanctuary for anyone who needs to step away from the noise.

Outside, there’s a fire pit and a half-court for basketball. Every space is meant to be used, not just looked at.

Northlake is one of the fastest growing communities in North Texas, with new families moving in every month from nearby Pecan Square, Harvest, Canyon Village, Argyle, Justin, and Flower Mound. Fischer chose the location on purpose, to meet a need that’s already there rather than one still years off.

All of it is organized around the same four ideas that shape everything the Foundation does:

• Fun: activities like pizza-making, podcasting, and video games that give teenagers a reason to walk through the door in the first place.
• Connection: building real relationships between teens and mentors they trust, not assigned caseworkers.
• Discovery: giving teens room to find new interests and skills they didn’t know they had.
• Direction: practical life skills and a sense of purpose, built through guest speakers, homework help, and hands-on experiences.

Why the Clubhouse Is Needed

Teen mental health in the United States is at a difficult point, especially for the 13 to 17 year olds the Clubhouse is built to serve. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10 to 24.

Nearly one in five adolescents ages 12 to 17 experienced a major depressive episode in the past year, and nearly four in ten high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. More than 341,000 teens enter rehab each year, or about one in seventy adolescents.

Those numbers describe real kids in real schools and neighborhoods. Families often discover, once treatment ends or a struggle begins, how few structured, engaging, and affordable places exist for teenagers to land. The Clubhouse is meant to close that gap. It’s open six days a week with extended evening hours, and it’s free for the families who use it.

Fischer has said he isn’t interested in waiting for teenagers to hit a crisis point before offering help. “I’m looking for the kids who are already in it,” he has said of the population the Clubhouse is built for. “I want to take on those problems for them and offer the immediate solution.”

More Than a Building

Fischer’s ambitions go beyond the one building in Northlake. He sees this Clubhouse as a model other communities could open on their own, giving more teenagers a place to land before they ever reach a breaking point.
