Luna Dance & Creativity, founded in 1992 as Luna Kids Dance and evolved from Luna Dance Institute, is a nationally recognized Berkeley-based nonprofit dedicated to bringing creativity, equity, and community to every child’s life through dance.

Studio Lab: Incubating Young Choreographers

Studio Lab serves as Luna’s creative incubation hub, offering structured non-school-hour classes like SL-Kids and SL-Teens that nurture the choreographer in every participant through progressive dance learning. At their Berkeley home base, SL-Adult programs foster intergenerational connections, while community presentations explore dance research, the choreographic process, and expansive ideas about who can dance and what dance can be. These experiences challenge limiting beliefs and spark lifelong artistic passion.​

As Luna’s “pedagogy engine,” Professional Learning develops and tests theoretical frameworks, articulates best practices, and equips teachers, artists, community workers, and therapists to bring all children to dance. Field Moving & Partnerships: Driving Justice Through Practice-to-Policy

Field Moving advances dance education toward justice via research sharing, collaborative impact, and advocacy for inclusion, creativity, and self-determination. Partnerships make this actionable, building custom programs with schools, early learning centers, social service agencies, districts, counties, and arts organizations. Signature MPACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) classes – partnered with groups like Project Pride and offered free at libraries – boost parental confidence in physical interaction, strengthening family bonds and proving dance’s transformative reach.​
