## What Is Giving Tuesday and Why It Matters

![Giving Tuesday](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/giving-tuesday.png)Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that happens each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. People, nonprofits and businesses come together to give money, volunteer and spread the word about causes they care about.

For your nonprofit, it’s a day when people are already in the mood to give. A good campaign can bring in new donors, and with good follow-up many of them will give again.

Need ideas on how to fundraise on Giving Tuesday? Check out these [Giving Tuesday Ideas »](https://www.wpcharitable.com/giving-tuesday-ideas/ "Giving Tuesday Ideas »")

## When Is Giving Tuesday 2026?

Giving Tuesday 2026 is on **Tuesday, December 1.**

Giving Tuesday 2025 was on Tuesday, December 2.

It always falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States, right after the shopping days of [Black Friday and Cyber Monday](https://www.wpcharitable.com/black-friday-cyber-monday-deals-for-non-profits/ "Black Friday and Cyber Monday"). This timing moves the focus from shopping to generosity, and it opens the year-end giving season.

## Your Giving Tuesday Checklist

Here’s the whole campaign on one page, with dates for 2026. Work through it from the top, and use the sections below for the details.

### Early November

- Set one clear goal, such as “$5,000 for school supplies for 100 children”.
- Build your campaign page on your own website, with a goal and a progress bar.
- Ask a local business or board member to match gifts on the day.
- Write your emails and social posts, and schedule what you can.
- Make a test donation on your phone to check the form works.

### Mid to Late November

- Announce your campaign about 2 weeks ahead, around November 17.
- Add a banner or button on your homepage that links to the campaign.
- Send your “tomorrow is Giving Tuesday” email on Monday, November 30.

### On December 1

- Send a morning, midday and evening email.
- Post progress updates on social media through the day.
- Reply to comments and thank people who share your posts.

### After Giving Tuesday

- Thank every donor within 48 hours.
- Share your final total and what it will pay for.
- Look at your reports to see which emails and posts brought in gifts.
- Invite new donors to give monthly.

## Getting Ready: Plan Your Campaign

### Set Clear Goals for Your Campaign

Decide how much you want to raise and what the money will pay for. A specific goal keeps your team focused and gives supporters something to rally behind.

Instead of a vague goal like “raise funds”, say “raise $5,000 to buy school supplies for 100 children.” A clear goal also helps you [communicate better with your donors](https://www.wpcharitable.com/best-donor-communications-plugins/). Here’s a sample of what that could look like.

![Sample fundraiser campaign for drinking water](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/sample-fundraiser-campaign-for-drinking-water.png)Learn [how to create goal-based and time-sensitive campaigns »](https://www.wpcharitable.com/how-to-create-time-sensitive-or-goal-based-fundraising-campaigns/ "how to create goal-based and time-sensitive campaigns »")

### Know Your Audience

Start with your current supporters, the people who have donated, volunteered or followed your work before. Group them by their interests or past giving, so each group gets a message that speaks to them.

![Email marketing segmented list](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/email-marketing-segmented-list.png)Then think about who else might help. That could be friends of your supporters, local businesses or groups connected to your mission.

### Create a Timeline

Put every key date on one calendar, from your launch to your last thank-you email. The checklist above gives you a starting point for 2026.

![Calendar planning](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/calendar-planning.png)Write your messages before the busy week starts. When the day arrives, you can focus on sharing updates and thanking people.

## Help Donors Find Your Giving Tuesday Campaign

On Giving Tuesday, people search for causes to support and scroll past hundreds of appeals. Your job is to make your campaign easy to find and easy to reach in one tap.

### Give Your Campaign a Home on Your Website

Put your campaign on its own page on your website, with a short address like *yoursite.org/givingtuesday*. A short link is easy to say out loud, print on a flyer and type on a phone.

With Charitable, every campaign is a page on your own site, so donors stay with you from the first click to the thank-you. You keep the donor data, and every visit builds up your own website.

### Show Up in Google and AI Search

Use the words people actually search for. Put “Giving Tuesday”, your cause and your town in the page title and description, such as “Giving Tuesday 2026: Help Feed 500 Families in Leeds”.

Answer the basic questions on the page too, like what the money pays for and how to give. That helps Google and AI tools like ChatGPT understand your page and point people to it. Learn more about [AI search for nonprofits »](https://www.wpcharitable.com/ai-seo-geo-and-zero-click-searches-for-non-profits/)

### Put the Link Everywhere

Use the same campaign link in every place your supporters already look.

- Add a banner or button to your homepage and main menu.
- Update your social media bios and your email signature.
- Post an update on your Google Business Profile, so people who search your name see the campaign.
- Send it to local news sites and community calendars.
- Ask your matching sponsor and partners to share it with their own customers.

Many countries and local communities also run their own GivingTuesday movements. Look on [GivingTuesday.org](https://www.givingtuesday.org/) to see if there’s one near you that you can join.

### Ask Donors How They Found You

Add a “How did you hear about us?” question to your donation form. After the day, you’ll know which channels brought in gifts, and you can put more effort there next year.

## Giving Tuesday Email Examples

Email is still where most supporters will hear about your campaign. Here’s a simple schedule with a sample subject line for each email.

- **2 weeks before.** “Mark your calendar for December 1”
- **Monday, November 30.** “Tomorrow, your gift goes twice as far”
- **Giving Tuesday morning.** “It’s Giving Tuesday! Help us reach $5,000”
- **Giving Tuesday midday.** “We’re halfway there, thanks to you”
- **Giving Tuesday evening.** “Only a few hours left to double your gift”
- **Within 48 hours.** “Look what you made possible”

Keep each email short, with one story and one button. Here’s an example of a morning email you can adapt.

> Hi Sam,
>
> Today is Giving Tuesday, and we’re raising $5,000 to buy school supplies for 100 children in our town.
>
> Last year, Maya started school without a backpack. This year, your $25 gift can give a child like Maya everything she needs for the first day. Until midnight, the Corner Bakery will match every gift.
>
> \[Give $25 today\]

Send the thank-you email to every donor, and say what their gift will do. See [why your donation receipt email is more important than you think](https://www.wpcharitable.com/unlocking-donor-loyalty-donation-receipt-email/).

## Giving Tuesday Social Media Posts and Hashtags

Social media is where your supporters can share your campaign with their own friends. Post before, during and after the day, and always include your campaign link.

### Social Post Ideas

- **Countdown.** “Giving Tuesday is 3 days away. Here’s what $25 can do for a child in our town.”
- **Story.** A short photo or video of a person your work helped, with a quote in their own words.
- **Progress update.** “We just passed $2,500! Help us reach $5,000 by midnight.”
- **Match alert.** “Every gift is doubled until 6 PM, thanks to our friends at the Corner Bakery.”
- **Behind the scenes.** Your team packing supplies or answering calls on the day.
- **Thank you.** “You did it! Here’s what your gifts will pay for this winter.”

Schedule your posts ahead of time, then use the day itself to reply to comments and share live updates. Ask your supporters to share your posts with their friends, since that’s how new donors find you.

### Giving Tuesday Hashtags

Hashtags help people outside your followers find your posts. Use a few that fit, rather than a long list.

- **\#GivingTuesday** is the official hashtag and the one most people follow.
- **\#GivingTuesday2026** ties your post to this year’s day.
- **A hashtag for your cause**, such as #AnimalRescue, #FoodBank or #ClimateAction, reaches people who care about your issue.
- **A hashtag for your town**, such as #GivingTuesdayLeeds, helps local donors find you.

Ask your donors to use your hashtag when they share. You can also run a social challenge, like asking supporters to post why they give.

## Choose the Right Tools

Most nonprofits run Giving Tuesday with a small team and a tight budget, often with no one technical on staff. The right tools let you build your campaign quickly and spend the day talking to donors instead of fixing things.

That’s why we built [Charitable](https://wpcharitable.com "Charitable"), a WordPress donation plugin used by more than 10,000 nonprofits. It turns your own website into your fundraising home.

[![WPCharitable homepage](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/wpcharitable-homepage.png)](https://wpcharitable.com)A setup wizard walks you through the first steps, so anyone on your team can create a campaign. The visual builder lets you drag and drop each part of the page without code, and ready-made templates mean you don’t start from a blank page.

Here’s a sneak peek of the campaigns you can create with Charitable.

![Holiday fundraiser template](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/new-theme-3-792x960.jpg)![School fundraiser template](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/new-theme-1-792x960.jpg)![Church fundraiser template](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/new-theme-2-792x960.jpg)

Charitable works with Stripe, PayPal and Square, plus local gateways in places like South Africa and Australia. Donations go straight from your payment gateway to your account, and Charitable never holds the money.

You can accept one-time gifts, set up recurring gifts for ongoing support and let donors give anonymously.

![Recurring donation in campaign form](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/recurring-donation-in-campaign-form.png)To reach more people, turn on [peer-to-peer fundraisers](https://www.wpcharitable.com/beginners-guide-peer-to-peer-fundraising/ "peer-to-peer fundraisers") and donation teams. Your supporters create their own fundraising pages for your cause and share them with their friends.

Charitable also handles the paperwork. PDF receipts and annual summaries are created for you, and you can customize every email to match your brand.

Every donation is recorded and organized for you. You own that data, and you can export it any time.

![Donation records in Charitable](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/donation-records-in-charitable-960x762.png)You can [start with Charitable Lite](https://wordpress.org/plugins/charitable/ "start with Charitable Lite") for free. When you’re ready to grow, the Charitable Pro plugin adds features like recurring donations, peer-to-peer fundraising and email integrations. On paid plans, Charitable takes no cut of your donations, so you pay only the yearly license and your payment processor’s fees.

## Let an AI Assistant Do the Busy Work

Giving Tuesday week is busy, and small jobs pile up fast. Charitable now works with AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, so you can ask for what you need in plain English.

Here are a few things you could ask on the day and after it.

- “Create a fundraiser for Giving Tuesday with a $5,000 goal, ending December 1.”
- “Add a question to the donation form asking how they heard about us.”
- “Log a $250 check from the Henderson Foundation against the Giving Tuesday campaign.”
- “Export the donations to the Giving Tuesday campaign so I can call everyone who gave.”
- “How much of this campaign came from repeat donors, and how much from first-time donors?”

You stay in control, because a newly connected assistant can only read your data.

To let it build campaigns, edit forms or log gifts, an administrator turns on **Enable AI Write Access** under **Charitable » Tools » AI MCP.** Any campaign it creates arrives as a draft for you to review.

### Connect Your Assistant With WPVibe

All of this is possible with [WPVibe](https://wpvibe.ai/), a free WordPress plugin from the team behind SeedProd. It connects your site to assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, with no API key to copy and no code to paste.

![Three dark step cards showing a setup sequence: 01 Install WPVibe, 02 Connect your site, 03 Add the MCP server with short descriptions](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/how-to-install-wpvibe.png)You’ll need the Charitable Pro plugin 1.8.19 or later and WordPress 6.9 or later. You don’t need to buy anything extra. Read [how AI write access works in Charitable »](https://www.wpcharitable.com/introducing-ai-write-access/)

## Craft Your Message

Your message is what moves people to give. Tell a real story about someone who will benefit, a recent success or a challenge you’re facing. Donors want to see what their gift will do.

Be direct about your ask. Instead of “Please donate”, say ***“Your $25 gift will provide school supplies for a child in need.”*** Then use a clear button like “Give now”.

![Sample campaign psychology](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/sample-campaign-pyschology.png)With Charitable, you can add photos, videos and [donation thermometers](https://www.wpcharitable.com/how-to-add-fundraising-thermometer-wordpress/) to your campaign page, so donors can watch the total grow. Learn about the [psychological triggers that make donation forms convert better](https://www.wpcharitable.com/psychological-triggers-for-better-donation-forms-conversions/).

## Make Giving Easy on Mobile

Many donors will give from their phones, often straight from a social post or email. Keep your form short, with suggested amounts and one clear button.

Offer a one-time or [recurring gift](https://www.wpcharitable.com/features/recurring-donations/) on the same form. Then make a test donation on your own phone to see what your donors will see.

## Engage Your Donors Beyond Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is the start of a relationship with each new donor. Here’s how to keep new donors close.

- Add a matching gift for a few hours to give people a reason to act now.
- Show social proof, like recent gifts, donor comments and testimonials.
- Send a personal thank-you and a short update on what the money did.
- Invite new donors to give monthly, so one gift becomes ongoing support.

## Analyze and Learn

After Giving Tuesday, look at what happened. Check how much you raised, where donors came from and which messages worked best.

Charitable gives you clear reports on donations and campaign activity. You can spot your top donors, track recurring gifts and see which campaigns brought the most support.

![Reports and analytics in Charitable](https://www.wpcharitable.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/reports-and-analytics-in-charitable-960x762.png)Use what you learn to plan next year. ## Bonus Tips for Giving Tuesday Success

- **Be clear about urgent needs.** If you need emergency funds, explain why the help is needed now and how the money will be used.
